Neuropsychology Associates of Abington Are Experts in Attention and Memory Disorders, Giving You Answers When You Are Worried about Failing Memory or Difficulty Staying Focused

Fear of having dementia or Alzheimer’s disease is something neuropsychologists often hear from patients and their families. We help families gain diagnostic clarity and teach you what can be done to improve day-to-day functioning. The same thing applies to adolescents and adults who are experiencing problems with school, work or social life because they can’t organize their activities or complete necessary tasks. We provide insight into the cause of these problems and advice about what to do to overcome cognitive challenges.

There Is Hope for the Future

After decades of research, we have finally entered a more optimistic era with new treatments for conditions of aging such as Alzheimer’s, Mild Cognitive Impairment, Parkinson’s, and other forms of dementia. With our accurate cognitive testing to inform diagnosis and treatment, Neuropsychology Associates of Abington can determine if cognitive problems are the result of a “reversible” condition - like depression, thyroid problems, or hearing loss. If we determine that one’s cognitive problems are due to dementia, we can track treatment effectiveness and may be able to provide recommendations to minimize the impact of the disease process on everyday living.

What is Neuropsychological Assessment?

A neuropsychological assessment is a comprehensive evaluation of cognition (like memory), mood, and everyday functioning using standardized tests and procedures. These assessments help identify changes in memory, attention, language, and problem-solving, providing critical information for diagnosis and guiding treatment plans. The assessment typically takes between 3 and 5 hours, including a background interview that guides the subsequent testing.
